In the early 90’s, at the age of 18, Miss Van (Vanessa Alice B.) began painting in the streets of her hometown of Toulouse, France. Over the years her sensual characters (poupées as they are called) evolved on the streets and grew their own personal style full of colour, eroticism, voluptuousness and ambiguity. Her recognizable style and techniques quickly made her one of the most well known names in the global graffiti and street art scenes. She has gone on to show in galleries across France, the rest of Europe and the United States.
In 2004 Vanessa moved to Barcelona and over the course of two years she worked together with Landry A. (photographer and designer) on a number of special limited edition collections for the Fornarina clothing brand. Together Vanessa and Landry also founded the Limbo Family, a name they still use to work on various projects together.
Over the years she has focused more and more on her painting and the development of her characters, continually evolving and experimenting with new techniques, colors and concepts, and always referring to her own life and experiences. Just as she continues to grow so too do her poupées. We have seen them become more mature, darker, mysterious and meaningful but without ever loosing their femininity and sass.
Anaoana is a fashion designer from Barcelona who began her studies in the 1990’s. The Anaoana brand finally was launched in the year 2001 with the idea of communicating with the public through the clothing created. Little by little the brand began to grow, develop, and carve out a market for itself in places such as Spain, Portugal, France, and Japan.
After a long break, during which Anaoana was searching for new inspirations and directions, the brand decided to branch out and form a platform for other designers as well as new ways for Anaoana to communicate with the public. This was embodied in the opening of the Glint shop (www.glintshop.com), a space in the center of Barcelona dedicated to the original spirit of the brand as well as that of the other young talents involved.
Since then Anaoana has continued to collaborate with various artists and designers until recently meeting the French painter, MissVan. Little by little they have worked together to bring to fruition the collaborative project between their two visions: Miss Van & Anaoana.
This project has been a long journey of hope, excitement, friendship, and inspiration and the final result will be a collaboration without limits, rules, or even set dates for the collections. A level of uncertainty is normal for any new creative endeavor but with two artists who have for years dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to their own work as well as this project it is obvious it has only begun to blossom.
